The Kamloops Fire Centre is one of six B.C. Forest Service, Protection Branch fire centres located throughout the province that form a critically placed network of fast response dispatch centres. The centres determine, coordinate, and implement forest fire attack strategies, offering the most effective and practical means of reducing fire costs and damage.
The B.C. Forest Service airtanker fleet command and control is the responsibility of the Provincial Airtanker Centre. The centre dispatches fixed wing aerial firefighting resources from any one of the 18 Tankers Bases in B.C. Strategic decisions regarding numbers, position and alerts are established by the centre in consultation with Air Attack Specialists and fire centre personnel.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police operates an A-Star 350 B3 helicopter based at the Kamloops Airport, which provides aerial support for the RCMP's law enforcement work. The operation supports all detachments north of Kamloops to the Territorial borders, east to the coast of BC and west to the Alberta border.
